The Espirit EL1 is the perfect entry level elliptical.  At  $699, you will not find a smoother, a more reliable, or a better- warrantied crosstrainer w/in that price range. This is one of the best entry-level home ellipticals hands down.  This line-up blows away any department store machines like you see in Dicks or Sports Authority.  Why you may ask?

 

The unit has an 18" stride length which is condusive for most people around 5"5- 5"10. (That is generally how stride length is determined, however you really need to try out the machine to make sure it is comfortable for "you" and that you are actually using the correct elliptical motion!)  Everyone has a different stride and even shorter people may need or simply prefer a much larger stride.
